My reason for keeping the flaps...I don't have the 4.6 kit (I think is pointless to put the kit on a black X5 anyway), so the mud flaps kind of do the job of squaring up the rear/bottom of the X, making it look less rounded. Which is why I'm hesitant to take them off. Plus, I'm pretty sure an adhesive/glue was used when they were installed.

I personally think it looks better with them on!
Plus you don’t want to see your bumper full of cow poop when you go Off-Roading on the farm!

Okay too much alki this weekend:

Are you saying that you like the square butt better than the round butt? Seriously, I don't like the mudflaps on. You should show off those wheels and how wide those tires compaired to others on the road.

That's the other main reason. I'm off-road A LOT...primarily in crop fields...not necessarily in cow pastures.

On the X5, yes! It makes it look beefier/more agressive. I'd love to show off the wide tires, but don't think dirt/mud, rock chips, or cow poopy on the sides is very attractive.

Michelle:

Can't you just use a glue adhesive remover (they are cheap at car store) and remove the residue from the paint? I just checked the bottle of stuff I have and it says ok on metal and plastic.

I think the flaps look fine, especially if they serve a function.

Does anyone have a rear and side pictures of their black 4.4i with 20" 87's with Toyo Proxes without mud flaps?
keep em - protects the bodywork, keeps ya clean and the bulk of them makes the rear look beefy and mean - IMHO

Thanks, Ryan.

FYI - They aren't attached to the paint, they are attached to the plastic trim pieces.
