Not to sound like an azz.................... ok, maybe I will......... but why in the world would you buy it first and THEN ask how it performs ??? Shouldn't you do your homework BEFORE buying it. What if it's a piece of crap ??

It won't "hurt", if installed properly, but I suspect the
only "improvement" noticeable in daily driving will be
purely psychological...

AFE INFO :

I installed my AFE about a month ago. It was an easy install - 45 minutes all buttoned up. The difference is a little bit better sound whenyou get on it, lol......listen very hard. Beyond that it is not just psychological....when in a passing gear and you get on the gas......it definitely opens up for you.

Here is the thing - the solution looks cool, but performance wisew it does not turn you X into a 1988 Mustang GT.

Now when I added my Supersprint exhaust, in conjunction with that....it is an awesome set up. It all boils down to opinion, choice and tatse.

Now go install the damn thing!

PS - Read my thread about the blue filter turning white....

My gym trainer says his AFE intake on his 330 xi is actually better than the Dinan CAI. He's pretty happy with it.

The cold air is the biggest bang for the buck when it comes to performance mods. The hp boost can be anywhere from 5 to 15 hp, depending on the manufacturer. So in terms of $$ per hp, you're getting a decent return.

Agree completely with richirich. It will not turn your ride into a Porsche supercar. But if you do both cold air AND free-flow exhaust, and do a remap of the engine software, you will get at least a 20 hp jump.

RR: My setup is all Dinan. Meanwhile, my trainer has your exact setup on his 330xi: AFE CAI and Supersprint exhaust. What else have you done? Any software re-flash? What about throttle body?

Nice set up!! Dinan all the way around...Very impressive!!

I have done quite a few all mods all around from wheels and tires to brakes......customangeleyes upgrade...keyhole cover, clear tails, color coded rear lid grip...front skid...clear led side markers....etc......

Don't mean to hijack the post....

AFE and SS are my latest .........I did not do software or throttle....I have the 3.0 i, so I am making the best of it.....if I had the 4.4 4.6 or 4.8....I would def go software and throttle body....

Next up ..30mm H&R Wheel Spacers..just arrived at work today...and the Running boards in a few weeks (OEM).....

Long term.....SUSPENSION .....prob not til this time next year...

I would love to hear your X with that Dinan setup...

Cool

:xoutpost: Its an easy install. Performance enhancement with AFE by itself? ... not sure, but check the sound clip in my sig below and you can sure hear the AFE in the right channel However I have done a software remap after installing Remus and the AFE.

Yeah thanks, I've gotten several exhaust compliments at the car wash, and also the valets at the BMW dealership like my exhaust "song". It's exactly as Dinan advertised: powerful, yet civilized. I might do strut bar next, although I hear that a lot of folks do not feel ANY handling improvement.

Whassup Zero: For the software, did u do both engine and tranny? Or just engine? Who did your remap, i.e. which company?
BTW, you and Wuzin have the best looking E53s on the site, IMO.
