Hello everyone! Just wanted to say hello. I love these forums, as we can all help each other out with problems and share ideas. I'm active in the Audi D3 forum and formerly in the 996 Porsche forum.

I have a quick question. I have a 2004 4.4i and want to install navigation and bluetooth. Is this considered one modification, ie if I add the nav module, will it also have bluetooth?

Also, for those of you that have done this, what is the approx cost for parts/labor? Thanks!

:xoutpost: from what i've ready, to go OEM, it can be expensive (upwards of 2Gs+ easily). If you go after market, you can get it for about 1G+ all in one unit.

OEM would be 2 'mods' - a few parts for nav, and then the bluetooth module and antenna. Check the NAV forum, and Bluetooth forum as well. A wealth of information. And before someone else tells you "search is your friend"

OEM is way more expensive...But it obviously will look and be stock. If you go after market it will be cheaper but look out of place in your X. It depends on how much you like the interior of your car to be unison...

Have a look at Pioneer AVIC or equivalent systems first.
OEM navi system for E53 is archaic compared to newer systems and will cost about double to install.

Pioneer and Alpine have a sick aftermarket setup for less and it has touchscreen.

Welcome to the boards!

I will completely understand if you just have to have the nav in your X5 but do consider that I have used it and would rather use a new Garmin ANY day...it is just so outdated in that you have to use this push knob for everything...no touch screen!! So I would recommend either getting a nice portable or installing a touch screen one into the dash and make it look like a factory one, and they all have bluetooth built into them nowdays.

There are some on the boards that buy that Garmin 680 unit (I think that's the model) and place the pop out antenna into the dash vents and it fits perfectly! There are pictures on the boards if you use search!

With regard to nav just get a Garmin. These units have better technology and cost much less. I would recommend 650 since it has a larger screen. Some of the models also have Bluetooth.

Your 2004 might already have Bluetooth, if it was made midyear and had premium package.

I have both Garmin in the wifes 525 and BMW original in my X5, I actually prefer the original, uit is a bit more awkward to set up but once you get used to it's Ok. I think the main advantage is that it appears to give better routes, this may be just a UK thing, but if we both put in the same destination, the original gets there sooner, and the TMF function works alot better than the Garmin (it stinks!!), the instructions are clearer and the re-calc is quicker, also with being fixed into the car you don't have to remoove everyday to stop it being stolen. Having said that I would seriously have to think about paying £2500 ($5000US) to get one retrofitted. You could afford alot of new windows and several new Garmins before you were out of pocket. The bluetooth on my wifes garmin is pants, but i guess with a bit of knowledge you could get the system wired with a decent mike and feed through speakers, or go for a seperate system.
