Smoked x5 Badges

Im looking to get my car badges smoked. Much like you see on a lot of the Lexus models of late. I dont want to remove them just get them powder coated or something. Anyone have any ideas? See pics or done this before?

badges wanting to be smoked are as follows

x5 (on rear)
3.0 (on each side)

cool idea, i removed the side badges, but smokin the rear badge would look good. you could just remove the badge and give it a good spray paint.

I assume that powdercoating would require that they be removed. Is this a DIY? Cool idea for a mod...

Ok heres what to do:

Get a hair dryer, dental floss, 400 grit sandpaper, primer, black (which ever color or finish) spray paint.

Then, heat up the X5 badge and work the floss underniegth it. Remove it. sandpaper then lightly. Wash off. Prime it. Spray about 5 coats of spray paint on. Wait 10-20 min. in between coats. Use double sided tape to adhear back on.

Voila, please this is the eaisiest DIY out there

A shot of clear coat might a good idea. I was thinking of painting the X5 badge body color (TiSi).

Hmm, Isn't this similar to debadging? Maybe it's just me.

The badges are plastic so you might have to sand off the fake chrome surface before applying any paint. Then again, a light spray over the chrome might give the desired "black chrome" look you're describing.

This stuff might be what you can use.
