how long have you let it stay connected? i was under the impression that everything in the car got turned off after like 20 minutes or so. i am in no way certain of this though.

I guess this is subjective. Personally i like the constant on better because during stop and go cell phones in particular never get a full charge when the ignition gets turned off.
Secondly; it not a good idea to leave devices plugged in on a regular basis. Law enforcement discourages it because of the invitation to thieves.

I would like to leave the chargers plugged to the lighter, when my car is off. But the cigarette lighter won't shut off with ignition like my mercedes. But since it stays on, it will drain my battery.
