Special Tool/Stroke when removing Fan nut/Pulley?
For those of you who have successfully replaced water pump and thermostat, want to share your experience and is it really a royal pain to do this? I got all the parts i need from autohausaz.com and i have the tools and the wrench for the fan nut (reversed thread) except the special tool. Does the pulley need special tool as well? Any help is appreciated. |

thanks for the link. Found a tool from another site for $49 plus shipping. This is specifically made for M62 engines. I think this will work since fabricating tools isnt my specialty....

I've been able to use a channel lock type pliers. note that the thread is BACKWARDS so turn the nut closewise as you face the rear.

All you really need is a big open end wrench that fits on the fan nut and a smallish screwdriver that you can wedge in between two of those bolts on the hub the fan spins on. Wedge the screwdriver in, put the wrench on and give it a nice whack - it's left hand thread so don't hit it the wrong way. No special tool needed.

I have come to a point now where i can freely say with confidence, YOU DON"T NEED A SPECIAL TOOL, all you need is just a screwdriver and wrench.
