Fuel filter replacement

I just attempted to replace the fuel filter on my 2003 X5, 3.0l, but the fuel line had strange connectors at the filter. Anyone had any experience with these--can I unlock them somehow and then lock back on the new filter? Please see photos for detail. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I believe they must be squeezed.

yes squeezed

the filter ends hav to be squeezed. also, you have to fit your screwdriver in the little holes of the side of the hoses. it is a real challenge to get to it.

As far as I know the ebay link shows an earlier version of the filter that was used before 2003.

Bumping an old topic but on my '06 X5 3.0L, I can't seem to locate the filter. I've rebuilt my VANOS seals and this stupid fuel filter thing is boggling my mind. I know it's within the belly pan but I'm not sure if it's on the driver side or passenger side. I attempted taking the driver side belly pan off but there are some 'pop rivets' on the side closest to the driveshaft and I just can't see or don't understand how you remove those.

Where is it located on my vehicle?
