Decent Brake kit, better Value DIY!

I just bought some brembo rotors and no-dust akebono pads as a kit from FCP Groton, full set up, shipped for like 360.. Same stuff the dealer uses.. but they quoted me like 575 per axle.. I tried to get slotted rotors, but brembo has them on back order..Definately great customer service from FCP.... Chad and Scott will really work with you to get you taken care of... I Just wanted to let you all know about a good deal and great customer service.. I know there are alot of shops out there trying to do their best and its usually only the shitty ones you hear about.... FWIW

Watch the "top hat" area on the Brembo rotors (the part that contacts the face of the wheel). I got a set for my 325 coupe and they started to develop a thin film of rust after a few months. I took em off, wire brushed them, masked them off, then painted them silver with a high temp paint. No problems after that. But I'm sticking to OEM from now on. I saw no performance benefit and they started to squeak a little, even with OEM pads.

Brembo brakes are a waste of money for X5 unless you are racing on a track a lot.As this type of brake only puts out max potential when heated up after/ under hard breaking, and you will not reach this potential on road using. Was going to get them myself until a good friend of mine who races professionally told me. Just an opinion lads

Which Akebono pads did you get- the ceramic or the organic. Had the organic in my wife's V8 Explorer EB and they would fade under hard braking, worse than the stock Ford pads. Switched to the ceramic and was much better, superior braking to the OE pads, a lot less dust, and so far no noise. However, the ceramic was double the price of the organic. Make sure the place you got them from didn't low-ball you and sell you the organics.

I just installed the Akebono ceramics on my X5 and they are good. No brake dust. I had Hawk pads in there before and the Akebono's seem a little softer, but no complaints.

Yea, I've got the Hawk HPS in the front of my X and like them far better than OE. Have HPS in my 528 and they are a lot grippier than the Akebono ceramics I used to have in it. And run Hawk HT-10 racing pads in the 911. Guess I like the Hawk product. Maybe they'll sponsor the 911??
