3.0 upgrade to 4.6is, 4.8is

Hello X5er's
I'm new to the X5 forum but familiar forums as I belong to the Acura one. I finally bought my 3.0 X5 and join the many satisfied owners. I have a quick question to kick off my project on the X5. With all due respect to the 4.4, 4.6, and 4.8 owners, I want to upgrade my 3.0 look to the 4.6is look but with the lovely 4.8is wheels. I just could not afford the 4.6 or 4.8 with the options and milage I was looking for. So I settled for a 3.0 hoping to upgrade it. Besides, gas prices weren't helping either. The Q: I can not find 4.8is wheels anywhere other that the dealer who is asking $775 for the fronts and $805 for the rear ea.? Has anyone attempted to chnge their 3.0 to look like 4.6 or 4.8? any info regarding these topics is greatly appreciated. Looking forward to many many posts.

Which year is your X5 3.0? There are few members here who have done the upgrade. You can get 4.8 look if your X5 is 2004 and later. You can try Ebay for wheels. For complete 4.8 look, you will also need the front and rear bumper kits as well as the wheel arch flares. Good luck.

You can buy the 4.8 body kits for about $1000 or so. And then you need to paint and install it. I have not seen any 4.8 replica wheels anywhere yet. Perhaps someone else can help. You can find 4.6 replica wheels on Ebay for about $800-$900 a set. Some people here were selling the OEM stock 4.8 wheels here, but pretty expensive.

Good luck, welcome to the X5 family and X5World!

3.0 upgrade

If you have the 04 and up body style you can do the 4.8is look but if you have the 00-03 body you will have to get the 4.6is look

you can use either Crevier bmw online parts (Vahey) or Pacicfic BMW (edward) they ave good prices and have done this with a lot of customers..
Being that you are new you will see once you start this madeness that is called modification is becomes addictive.. It all depends on what you you are looking to achieve..
You may also look into the aluminum running board they are a nice look to add to the 4.6/4.8 look, and the 4.6/4.8is exhaust.

as for the wheels you have to check ebay for that i did see a guy once selling the silver replicas but i haven't seen too many out there most of the 4.8is wheels are chrome and most x5 owners thinks is too blingy, its a matter of personal preference
here is a link from the articles.. hope this helps

Thanks guys. That was quick. I'm looking for the 4.6 look with the 4.8 wheels. I have not been able to find those wheels anywhere. The ones on Ebay are chromed and I don't like that.
AutoeXer, where did you see the kit for $1000? Thx to all for the info.
I'm not planning doing projects to my car other that acheving the 4.6is look. That's it. BTW, my X5 is Blk/Blk 02, 3.0 sport pkg X5. If anyone knows where to buy 4.8 wheels other than the dealer, please post a reply. Thx for the help guys.

Here's the link to the Ebay seller. They also have 4.6i kits in the past. Crevier and Pacific BMW also have good prices. Good luck.
