I did AFE Cold Air Intake alnog with xpipe and Supersprint exhaust.......
Looks great!! Sounds Awesome!!! Maybe just a little pep in passing gear! but that is it!! All three of these in conjunction with each other do it justice, but it's still and X5 not a Ferrari! I knew this going in to these mods! Save your money on ECU upgrades, supercharger kits, turbo kits, cams, etc.... The goal here, especially on the 3.0i is for looks and sound! RR

With the release of conforti's shark editor I think you may see more possibilities for aftermarket turbo setups. There seems to be so much room under the hood the possibilities could be endless.

Look at these websites;
www.bavauto.com www.turnermotorsports.com You can spend about $1,900 and get a Remus exhaust, Jim Conforti ECU flash and an AFE cold air intake. It won't turn your 3.0 into a 4.4, but I would imagine you would be able to tell a seat of the pants difference with those mods. The ECU flash not only adds horsepower, but also allows a higher RPM limiter, which will means when you are accelerating hard you are starting each gear (after first) at higher RPM's and closer to the sweet spot for torque and HP. If you want to spend twice as much and get the same check out www.dinancars.com It will be difficult and expensive to get an extra 50 hp out of the 3.0. Some of the people who own 3.0's and have done some or all of these mods may know better.

Do you gain much from the AFE? It seems it would just be sucking warm air from the engine bay, and less volume than from the stock ram intake.... or does it somehow connect to that? Never seen one in a car.

short answer is no - you won't get much in terms of performance. You will get a better sound, but that's about it... do a search for CAI or cold air intake on this forum...

Pipercross makes a nice drop in filter, available through ECS. You'll get a little bit more throaty sound out of your engine without having to worry about water and stuff getting on a cold air filter. You can use the stock air box, just drop it in.
Dinan ECS Bavauto ActiveAutoWerks There are tons of places out there, start with a Google search.

I like Pipercross's cones... they sound downright sexy.
