Q for those who have installed OEM hitch themselves
And if so, did the OEM hitch come with these brackets or was it a separate order?? The reason I ask is that my X is still in the body shop after 6 weeks and the only thing remaining is one of these brackets to hold on the rear bumper cover. The body shop said they cannot find the bracket anywhere, not even in Germany. And BMW cannot give them a delivery date either. The one that was on there was damaged beyond repair. I am just curious if this is included as a kit with the hitch - that way I will get them to order a hitch and just take the bracket out of the kit.

I haven't installed an OEM hitch, but I have an after market and it looks to me like the bumper brackets are entirely different on the OEM hitch. They must come with it. http://www.xoutpost.com/images/articles/91/pp6.jpg

I installed the OEM hitch myself.
The OEM hitch kit includes two different items that may be described as bumper brackets. 1) There are two struts that bolt to the unibody, which run fore/aft, and which are compressible (like shock absorbers). These struts are what the bumper hangs on. 2) There is a hanger that bolts to inside of the bumper, running right across. This reinforced bar attaches to the two struts. In short, yes, the bumper kit includes what is probably being called a bumper bracket.

It was described to me as the bracket needed to attach the bumper cover to the vehicle and they stated there are different ones depending on if you have an OEM hitch or not (which I do).
Thanks for the info JCL. Lemans - I think that is what they are talking about, although I remember mine looking different than that. Mine had the tube mounted on the end of a rectangular plate. OK, based on what you all have given me, I am going to see if the body shop can look at this as an option for the mounting bracket. Thanks again!!

Everything you need to install the OEM hitch comes in the kit. There should be nothing extra you need to buy (excecpt for the ball unit).

If you look at the X5World home page, you will see the BMW instructions for installing the OEM hitch. There are pictures/drawings of all the parts, and those may help you determine what you require to repair the accident damage.
Good luck.
