Final Decision

I am in a pickle right now, I have ordered an '06 X5 4.8is that rolled off the assembly line on Friday and will be here on Wednesday and I have a '06 Mercedes E500 on hold that will be here on Friday. I'm trying to make up my mind, but each has advantages over the other. The X5 is lemans blue/beige/dark wood w/ nav, heated steering wheel, rear airbags, and comfort seats. The E-class is black/black and has Sat Radio, Lighting, AMG sport, Premium Packages w/ dual sunroofs, nav, adaptive seats, heated and cooled seats, 6-disc changer, auto trunk closer, and keyless go. The E55 steering wheel and spoiler are also going on it from the dealer. Both are virtually the same price, so input would be greatly appreciated.

I dont know how long you keep cars...but the X5 has significantly more resale value than the E class. 2001 X5 still in the mid to upper 20s and with low miles still in the low 30s..2001 E430 low 20s. I could have purchased a 02 e430 for less money than my 01 X5 4.4. I know the new E class will probably hold better resale value...but so far has not been as good as the X5. my .02 worth

And on a more realistic side. Do what you feel is right. I think asking a question like that on a X5 forum...You know what everyones answer will be. If you ask it on a MB forum..they will tell you all things E class. Its tough to get an unbiased opinion on an enthusiast web site for a particula vehicle.

I had a 97 e420. It was a great car...and had plenty of get up and go. It would probably run circles around the X5..but the X5 rides better. I think it has something to do with weighing in at 4800 pounds and sitting up higher.

You will like either choice. Black on black is awesome, but the 4.8is is a beast....

Philip

So are you saying x5 or E500 (not considering the ML, I already have the old one)?

Dude, this is an X5 forum, guess what the answer is going to be? Personaly I have never like Mercedes, everytime I am about to get a new car I always check out Mercedes, and always end up back to the BMW stealer. The 2 things I don't like are the cabin design, too much plastic and too many buttons... and their cars always seem to be $10k more expensive than their BMW equivalent.

Seems to me you can't decide if you want a SUV or sedan. I have owned 3 MB's, and 3 BMW's over the years. I currently own one of each (the X5 and an E320). I have noted the same as somewhereinla, that the build quality of the BMW has remained high, and that of the MB seems to be dropping slightly over the past few years. MB still makes a good car, no doubt, but I have swung back to the BMW camp.

With no info on where you live, driving situ, needs/wants,
your question is even more ridiculous than if you had posted
your parameters. It's going to be Your fooking car...this is an X5 board.
Buy whatcha want. GL,md

The E class is a great car. If you do not need the extra space in back, then it is an interesting question. The 4.8 is great because it is much more exclusive, more fun to drive (geared towards sport) and you will receive the free maintenance. There are quite a few E500's around. The MB is good for mileage, and the body style is still fresh and will be around for 2-3 more years. The X5 is changing next year. Not sure if any of that matters.

You can't just go on an X5 message board and ask if you should get an X5 or an E500... You need to give more information. Also, it's an X5 board, so guess which car we're going to pick...
