Ceritified Series Warranty.
![]() Its like you puked couple times last evening and you go to the Doctor and the he says well unless you do that infront of me I can't find whats wrong with you... So I've called BMW Business part of the Dealership, to complain that I was never informed of this kind of stuff, also not all is covered under the warranty, the pamplet they gave me lookes as all would be covered but there could be an item in the engine like transister "B" which if at fault is not under warranty. They are gonna get back to me about this, cause I said the reason I bought from you is the peice of mind, I spent more on this X5 from you than buying it from Dick and Janes Fine Used Cars...there is a reason I paid more to you folks and that reason is worthless if I have to think about bringing the car in twice....

Good lesson to read the fine print on your extended warranty.
Charging for diagnostic time when no fault is found is not limited to extended warranties, it can happen with a new vehicle warranty as well. It is designed to deal with those owners who continually request service for no obvious reason. There is usually some judgement applied as to when to charge it. For example, if the SA hears the noise, but they can't find the cause in the shop, that is not the same situation as having no evidence of any fault, ie you requesting service when nothing is wrong.

You are charged the diagnostic fee to check the car and if the part is covered it is only a $50 deductible. It is terrible and the extended warranty doesn't really cover anything. Most of the things that fail are wear and tear.

One of the Business managers called back, I talked to him about my concern, so he said if the sound ever comes back and I bring it in and they find a fault that is covered, they will not charge me the $50 again. He aslo said most of the big ticket items are usually covered like my caliper and rain sensor was. As for the $50 I think of it as the courtesy car rent, which is reaaaally reasonable for at 2008 328i for 6 days...and I do like the service they give, my X5 was all washed and cleaned inside and out, waiting for me that alone is more than $50.

Thanks for the update. I was about to ask about the courtesy vehicle (if you had to pay for it) but you answered that question. I agree that you got a pretty good deal for CDN$50.
This info will surely come in handy. |

The CPO agreement makes the limitations and charges very clear, you should have read the agreement before you complain to BMW or the dealer.
The very first thing in the contract is "There is a $50.00 handling charge (per repair visit) that must be paid by the customer for any repairs covered under the terms of the Certified Pre-Owned BMW Limited Warranty." I don't mean to sound unsympathetic but BMW makes you sign a document that has all this information on it. http://www.bmwusa.com/Standard/Conte...tDg997SwxWlR3E |

No complains if they did that, but I was only given a brochure on the Certified Warranty, which has no reference to it, and they don't tell you whats not covered, which can be hard since there are millions of parts, I just hope that a major ticket item does not fall under the "Not Covered" part. As I said the $50 is no biggie even if they told me it's new cause with the courtesy car and the washing/cleaning of my car thats nothing.

They gave me a brochure in very GENERAL terms of what was covered, "transmission", "engine" etc... I didn't like that so I really had to push to get a fineprint listing of what's not covered. Most of the non-covered items are wear-and-tear parts. What I REALLY want to know is that's the difference between the ORIGINAL factory warranty (mine expires Dec of this year) and the CPO. IN a few months I need to go over the X with a "fine tooth comb" to check for items I need fixed under original warranty. - Interion trim peices for example. |
