Armrest removal

After a superb thread from Steved re the Aux input cable, I have now bought one and intend to install it tonight.

I would like to have the Aux input either hidden in the armrest or in the ashtray and simple plug the MP3 player in and have it hidden, but close to me rather than in the glove box.

Either way, can anybody please tell me if it's possible to remove the armrest without removing the entire centre consol?

Thanks

The armrest is part of the center console. It's one whole piece.
If you just want to route the AUX cable to the ashtray, you could just remove the A/C control unit and run the cable down there. It's easier that way. If you need help removing the A/C control unit, let me know.

Thanks for your reply.

Providing I'm not going to find myself out of my depth please send over whatever instructions/advice you have.

To remove the AC control unit, insert a small flat-tipped screwdriver into the left edge of the unit (the part where it meets the dashboard material) and carefully lift it out. The unit should just come out nice and easy. Once the unit is out, you can feel your way around the back of the radio or nav unit (if you haven't already removed it). You'll see the back of the ashtray compartment from there. Just route the AUX cable from the back of the radio unit down (behind the AC control unit) to the ashtray.

Done and thanks for your help.

The Aux kit (£37 - $66) makes a massive difference to the iPod. I did use an iTrip but frankley it was crap. Whilst I can only adjust the volume on the steering wheel the sound quality is no different to CD (IMHO anyway!)

I'll place the iPod in the lobster pot and just pick the songs as and when....

5000 tracks available now and I'm very happy!
