bump stop next to the latch ...

My 06 model X5 does not have this rubber bump stop and I'm guessing that's the reason why my lift gate rattles. I've checked with two dealers and neither of them could find any info about it. I said the hell with it and ordered the part but there's no way it would attached to the bolt next to the latch. It almost looks like it would require a different bolt. Can you guys help me to see if I need to order a different bolt? I'm attaching a picture of the bump stop I'm talking about.

You're right, that is what's most likely causing the rattle.

Can anybody help me to attach this bump stop? Do I need to loosen the bolt cause there's no way the bump stop would stay there. Thank you.

That's very odd...My '04 has it, but my hatch still rattles. I just unscrewed my bump stop just to verify this for you. Guess what...it's the same screw on both side using the same torx bit.

I appreciate it. I'll give it a try in the morning.

You have to loosen the bolt and then add the bump stop. It will fit. I ordered the bump stop for my 2002, and it fit with the screw, but did not shut right. I believe BMW added them starting with 2003 X5's.

I saw a 2004 4.8is at the dealer and it had it but didn't have the updated spring loaded rubber stoppers on each side of the rear hatch. I got tired of the run around the dealer had been giving me so i ordered the part myself.

Well, the bump stop didn't fix the rattle. It only made the hatch close hard(had to slam it ). I guess I'll try the felt pads next.

The bump stop did not work for me either. I found that my rattle was coming from the spoiler. I took the spoiler off and tightened all the bolts and the rattle was gone.

I gave up on trying to fix every creeks and rattles years ago. Wasted too much time and efforts that got me nowhere. Instead, just turn up the music and enjoy the ride
