Alarm keeps going off

For the last week, my X5 alarm has gone off for no apparent reason. Typically it happens 2-3 times within a short period of time, then is fine for a day or two. Any ideas? Any alternative aftermarket alarm systems recommended?

I do get to Vegas, SF, Seattle, and travel back to NJ (where a GOOD alarm is needed)

Might be the hood sensor/switch. A common cause of fales alarms on X5s. You can either disconnect it yourself or your dealer can disconnect it within seconds and if there are no longer any false alarms you've found the cause

just throwing this out htere. A few years ago the alarm in my mustang kept going off at odd hours of the night. After the 4th night of this and worrying about neighbors being upset I disarmed it when it went off at 4am and I didn't rearm it. I was getting up anyway and had to leave the house by 5:30. When I went out, windows were smashed, stereo and all CDs were gone. Police said it's a common trick with theives, keeping setting off the alarm and you'll eventually no arm it, sooner or later. I don't know if this is the case with you.....just a heads up...

I have to agree with janix. Its probably the hood switch. I noticed that your X5 is an 01. That was a problem on X5's produced up to 2/01. If it is the hood switch, replace it with 61 31 8 374 745... this hood switch is made with an extended plunger.

I disconnected my hood switch 3 years ago after experiencing similar intermitent alarm problems and have never had a false alarm since.

Any militant separatists out there in Idaho lobbing high caliber rounds downrange for target practice? Shockwaves might set it off...

Thanks for the feedback - noticed no one mentioned a replacement alarm - will replace hood switch - only time vibrations set off alarm is when the garbage truck rolls by - as far as needing an alarm in Idaho, think 1950's when no one locked up their house , let alone their car.

My X5 was in the dealership garage yesterday for the alarm sorting, kept going off all the time. When he hooked it up, the computer showed passenger door kept triggering it, work was done under warranty.
