Passenger side footwell power outlet not working

Hello all,
Over the weekend, i plugged in my Magellan GPS into the passenger side footwell power outlet. I unplugged it to stash it in the glove box while I went into the store, but when I plugged it back it, the outlet doesn't have any power.

The dash power outlet and both of the rear power outlets work, but not the passenger side footwell.

I checked both the front and rear fuse panels with a DMM, and all the fuses are good.

I reached around the back of the outlet and the wires seem connected and snug.

Any ideas?

Check the fuse in the plug on your GPS

GPS works fine in the other outlets.

I get no voltage at the power outlet with my DMM.

Is it switched with the ignition?

Check the voltage of the power wire against the power socket ground.

Work back and check the voltage of the power wire against a known good ground.

Follow the harness back.

I would go back and check fuses again as well, reseating the fuse if necessary (not just checking if it is blown).

I re-checked all of the front and rear fuses with the X5 running and they all show 14V on my DMM.

I used my DMM to check the power and grounds:
rear outlers = 14V and 1 ohm to ground
center outlet = 14V and 6 ohms to ground
passenger outlet = 0V and 26 ohms to ground.

I tried to trace the harness as far as I could, but it goes from the outlet up into the dash.

It's funny, I never used my 12v outlets until today and I find out that both of the front ones don't work, but the back ones do. My car is just 2 weeks out of warranty. Hopefully, we can both figure out the problem.

Just be sure your device is in all the way. The strangely-placed outlet is at an odd angle and longish adapters will not plug in all the way and even the shorter ones require some manipulation. I thought mine was bad, but after a lot of wiggling and thrusting it turns on now.

Damn, after reading this I feel that may be more answer than you wanted...

Damn, after reading this I feel that may be more answer than you wanted...

There's no voltage at the actual wires behind the power outlet, which leads me to believe there's a blown fuse somewhere, but I've already checked all of the fuses behind the glove box and in the rear of the X5, and all check ok for voltage.

I hope it's just my fuses. I will check those next. I'll let you know if I figure anything else out.

So I took the X5 to CarMax to get some repairs done under warranty.

The diagnosis on the passenger side footwell outlet was that the wire broke behind the fuse panel

.

Anyways they fixed it under warranty, but I need to get back there and see if the mechanic really fixed it or just wired it to a new power lead.
