Changing 3.0 exhaust

Hello, I had a quick question that I hope someone can help me with. I have an 04' X5 3.0 and I wanted to get a throatier exhaust sound and change the exhaust tips. I was going to follow the example my DanD and remove my stock resonator with (2) 12" glass packed resonators from Meineke. Then I would like to cut the stock 3.0 exhaust tips at the angled down part and add chrome tips. I would like to have the chrome tips come straight out rather than angle down. Just wondering if anyone has done something like this. I also purchased a pair of chrome tips on ebay that are wider and have a black screen welded in them. They guy from meineke said that he would not have to cut the tips and just place the chrome tips over the stock exhaust. This looks kind of silly as you can see the stock exhaust through the black screen. This is why I wanted to add the chrome tips that I purchsed from Bavarian Auto and cut the stock exhaust tips- making them stick straight out rather than angle down.
Sorry to ramble on, I just wanted to know if anyone has done this to there 3.0 stock exhaust. Thanks for all the help.

If you're going for the 4.6 look, check out this thread: http://www.xoutpost.com/x5-e53-forum/...oval-tips.html very detailed about how to get the OEM look.

for a throatier response, I'd recommend Remus setup

The Remus DOES sound better than stock, but it won't be that much throatier on a 3.0i with the stock resonator.

Can't give you much advise on the glass packed resonators as I don't have that setup nor do I want too loud of an exhaust. For just the tips, you can do what I initial did...cutting off the silly OEM tips and welded on some Ractiv tips. But then I noticed that the welds do get rusted up very easily and ultimately just replaced the entire setup with Remus. Have you seen my other thread => http://www.xoutpost.com/x5-e53-forum/...installed.html

The Remus have a deeper sound than OEM, but not very throaty on the I6. Perhaps it provides a throatier notes on the V8s.
