Banging into 3rd

Okay this happens like 10% of the time, and only when I'm accellerating fast from a roll. My transmission will sometimes Bang into third gear.. I don't know how else really to describe it.. But I'm wondering should I bring this in while I still have my 3k/3 month warranty or is it normal? Other times under normal/feather footing the car is smooth and changes gears seamlessly.. 2001 3.0 with 79k miles

mine has the same problems. I think its the response to driving with your foot floored and than letting off a bit before the next shift. the computer gets confused

You could try and top off the transmission fluid. I remember reading that rough shifts could be due to low fluid.

yea that's kind of what my instincts tell me when it happens, I do feel the same kind of bang sometimes when I let off the gas at certain points, just a very much lighter version of it.

I used to have a similar problem before having the tranny software updated. This thread talks about it:

I told them to do a transmission software upgrade but they said it had already been done. Nothing has changed. Anyone know what else it could be?

try resetting the 'memory' -
- key in position two
- keep gas pedal to the floor for > 30 secs
- lift foot off of gas pedal
- start car as usual and drive forward

...worth a shot

I tried the reset but it didn't make a difference. I don't know what else it could be.
