Question WHISTLING DIXIE

I have a 2003 x5, 3.0i on slight throttle while driving i have a whistle noise from the engine. Seems to only happen when in drive, say about 1400 rpm, maybe only low speeds. Driving through a local street or pulling away from a light is when i hear it the most. I have almost 62,000 miles. Any help would be greatly appreciated....

I have the same thing happening, I am going to have my indy fix it when he does my oil/water separator this fall.. as far as the hoses... depending on where it is and how long it takes to find it should be a very cheap fix.. I had a small raccoon type animal eat some hoses on the X when I was stationed in Germany, luckily I had a good relationship with the local german dealer so the hoses that were easy to access were replaced at no charge, but since then I had a whistle that is almost impossible to discribe... long story short... I have been told that it is a small vacuum hose that has been eaten or cracked or whatever.. but its minor enough that it does not throw any codes.. just whistles....

good thing I checked here!. I get a slight whistle as well but thougt it was a feature of the Turbo engine. I do notice it after pulling off (kinda like when going from 1st to 2nd gear - My car is auto)

it is difficult to describe but it s like a whistle you get from a brease.

where are the intake hoses?

The whistle is an age old X5 problem that sometimes cannot be found and quite simply you have to live with it. The whistle kinda resembles the old radio wine if you have a bad ground...it raises in volume as you throttle. I have had broken hoses with a whistle..once the hose was replaced the the whistle was gone... if you search out whistel you will find quite a few threads that address this issue.
