NO OEM HITCHS AVAILABLE IN THE US!

Just FYI:

I found out from BMW dealer that they've terminated their relationship with the manufacturer of the E53 OEM hitch, and therefore no dealer in the US carries the hitches. BMW America is working to resolve the issue and is searching for a new manufacturer.

Comes at perfectly shitty time when i needed to get a hitch for my motorcycle trailer for a road trip! Damn it!

I will take the plunge and go with a Non-OEM-- no options at this point.

If anyone has new info regarding this, please feel free to provide follow-up.

I would phone around to a few dealers and see if you can find one.

Dont bother. It's been about 3-4 months since you could get one and there are over 500 on national backorder now.

I needed the bumper carrier after an accident and luckily my repair shop found one at a US dealer. Delayed my repairs about 3 weeks.

hopefully they can find a good suitable company to work with and will start producing them again. if there's a backorder of 500 already, then the demand is obviously there. as i have no immediate need, i'll try be patient.

I wonder how the aftermarket ones compare to the BMW one?

I was able to convince my local dealer to sell me one...one of the last full OEM kits around the northeast area. They had one kit available for customer repairs and I could sense the sales guy's hesitation but he sold it to me. Put the hitch on this weekend and it was a bear of a DIY. It took almost 6 hours to complete even with the help of my friend!!!
