Half rusted rotor

Ok this is a weird one...I installed new Axxis Pads on all 4 wheels a week ago...I measured the rotors and they were within spec so I didn't replace them...drove on them all week and were fine. Friday night it rains so the rotors get a little coating of rust, like usual, however, half of it has not gone away on the FRONT wheels! But no noticible loss of braking power, no shimmining, and just a slight bit of squeeling once in a while. Any ideas?

It looks like the pad is contacting the rotor fine. I would think there might just be some debris on the pad that needs to be scrubbed off. Normal driving should clean it off though.

Did you properly bed your pads after they were installed?

Looks like the old pads wore the rotor uneven and now that you installed new pads, only a portion of them are hitting the rotor. I imagine that if the whole pad was hitting the rotor, this debris would be scraped off. I would bed the pads in and see what happens after that. It may take a while for the pads to wear in on the rotors. Until then, you may see this.

The pads have not fully seated yet. You did not say how many miles on the new pads. It could take 500 to 1000 miles to fully seat. No worries.

I had the same problem after I changed the pads. I was told that the pads are too hard on rotors. Ended up cahnging the rotors and the pads.

The rust/corrosion that you see on the rotor is because the pad is not making contact with the rotor in that particular area. Your whole rotor would look this way if the pad didn't scrape them clean when you stop. The rotors do not always wear completely evenly and when you throw new flat pads on used/worn rotors, there are some places where the pad will have to wear into the shape of the rotor. This has nothing to do with the the pad being too hard on the rotors. After some use, the pad should wear in and scrub the entire surface of the rotor.

Thanks for all the responses!

I did bed them according to Axxis instructions on the box (40mph down to 10mph 10x) but not the Zeckhausen ones...they seemed a little intense for my purposes but maybe I will give it a go tonight. I have only put on about 200 miles (road trip) since last weekend so it sounds like I have a while to go before the pads are fully bed-in.

Thanks again for all your advice!
