re x5 wheels?

i have a bmw x5 4.6is with 275 tyres on the front which are bald...do the 315 35 20 fit on the front with no rubbing etc?thanks

It won't rub....The first number 275 or 315, doesnt have anything to do with tire thickness. It has to do with tread pattern....The second number (35) does.. you'll be fine.

tires

275 and 315 is how wide the tire is and they will rub in the front.

The 315s won't rub up front ONLY if they're mounted on the 10.5" wide rims that has the ET30 offset. However, they will rub the front struts if the 315s are mounted on the 9.5" wide rims with the ET45 offset.

ok thanks,there was a contradiction,3 members say you cant and 2 people say you can.just so im clear on this--can i put 315 40 20 with 10.5 rims on the front of my 4.6is 52 plate?without any rubbin?thanks again.

275 or 315 is the tread width in milimeters, the second number is the aspect ratio and has to do with the sidewall height in relation to the tread width. ie: a 275/40R20 is the same width, but taller than a 275/35R20, and a 305/35r20 is taller and wider than a 275/35R20.

So the 315 tires are 4 centimeters wider than the 275's are. That should equal rubbing at the strut's lower spring seat at least, likely the lower fender liners when you turn as well. And those tires would be too wide for your front rims anyways. Thats actually wider than your rear tires are... your front rims are 20x9 and the rears are 20x10.5. And the offset is different between them also.

Basically put, I would just go back with the same size tires.

Correct, no rubbing if the 10.5 rims are OEM or with OEM offset of ET30. Members have done this (having all four corners with 315s on 10.5 rims - essentially using the 4.6is' rear setup on all four corners) without issue.
