xoutpost.com saves me approx $250 at BMW Dealer

My driver side brake light went out. Strange that there was no warning on the dashboard about it. I had to take the X5 in for a periodic checkup and was told that the bulb had not burned out but burned something up! Worse yet, I was told that it was going to cost north of $250 because it wasn't part of the warranty.

Armed with my laptop computer (and BMW's wireless access) I did a couple searches on this website and found that this was called a "common problem" by many other drivers. Showing this to the manager helped them see things my way - they classified it as a "good will" warranty repair - and I saved some money!

Thanks to all of you here for helping out a fellow X5er in his hour of need!

.....time for me to go renew my x5world membership!

Is your ride still under factory warranty??
If so there's no such thing in this case as
a "good will" warranty repair. Mine was
repaired 4 times........Under warranty.

If you we're out of warranty then indeed
you should be happy.

I say this because if your under warranty
they are not doing you any favor by fixing
the problem. They are obliged to fix it no matter
how many times it fails.

sheeez, I just saved $1100 this past week cause of info on this sight. BMW told me my rear airsprings were blown(both) and were gonna charge me $1300 to change them. Bought two airsprings and went home to change them. Armed with x5 forums and minneso's how to article it took me bout 20-30 to change the pair only to find the rear didnt inflate. checked the fuse(duh) and it was blown. New fuse and a call to BMW and everything got refunded

Same thing here - I'm a realtively new X5 buyer, and have been trolling this site for a few weeks. My sunroof leaked, and after doing some research here I got my dealer to not only replace the entire sunroof, but also to put new carpeting throughout the whole car. Great site.
