Guess what - Tranny Problems

Here we go again!!

I have a 01 X5 4.4 w/ 86K on it. The tranny slips only when i put it in sport mode between 1st and 2nd. I was thinking about doing the following.

Tranny flush w/ filter
Throttle adaption procedure
Clean out the switches in the center console (gear switch and sport mode switch)

I was also reading that some people are having to have a wiring harness and control module replaced. Is that the main harness that is inside the tranny pan, and the main computer for the tranny?

Do you have any other ideas that i could look at before throwing in the towel?

Thanks for any help!
Phil

yes that is exaclty what i mean. at WOT the tranny starts slipping in first, shifts into second drops about 1500RPM and the starts slipping all the way up to redline, shifts into third and as it shifts goes into fail safe.

I think you might start saving up for a new automatic gearbox. 86k is pretty close to the "expected lifespan" of BMW ATs. You could try an ATF flush........but that might make things worse. Sounds like a mechanical rather than software-related problem, especially since the Transmission failure light comes on.
