So from reading right through that thread: http://www.xoutpost.com/x5-e53-forum/...eadlights.html it's very obvious that their was a change of glues from Nov 2002.

What I find most interesting is the fact that post # 48 which mentions trying N-methylpyrrolidone is dated way back in July 07, almost 2 years on now. Surely in the last 2 years somebody has either tried that product or something else to crack open the holy grail of prefacelift Nov 02 >> headlight lens. I mean isn't their new chemicals, solvents and the like being explored/experimented, manufactured and produced in laboratories for chemical companies etc ??

I'm actually one of the lucky ones with headlight casings manufactured in 04/02, so mine are going to open just fine when the time comes. I'm just curious with this issue and am interested to see it resolved.

I find it so funny that we're all looking at this as an "issue" and I'm stressing out because I can't crack my headlights open. Can you imagine that BMW and HELLA saw this glue change as an "upgrade"? We're all (with 11/02 and on) are pissed about it, and trying to find ways around it! :

I just found it ironic as I'm sitting at my desk drinking coffee and no longer sweating over the hot plastic, screwdriver in hand, prying like a gravedigger.

BTW, the headlight assemblies are still spread across my kitchen counter, and I swear my girlfriend is plotting my death! I'll clean it up later

Finally manned up to bake the headlights on my 03 (Build date 10/02)....to my luck one headlight had a build date 10/02 and the other 09/02.....I baked the 10/02 hoping for a miracle...maybe they switched the glue later in the week.......But no...the glue stayed harder then the headlight plastics! I'm stuck with the ugly amber

Wow! I can't believe the OP managed to open the headlights attached to the X. Heat gun worked great for me.
