window regulator question

on average, how long has your replacement lasted you? last week i replaced my regulator along with the harness that runs through the door. last night, i lowered my window and once again heard that wonderful *clank*. i understand that this part gives many people headaches, but 1 week?

I would suspect the installation more than the part itself.

WTWOTEN
Thanks for the heads up . Today I just open the LEFT REAR door and found that the regulator is bad. I'm ordering from Crevier and overnight it. I will make sure the installation is proper in order not to run with the same poblem of going bad in 1 week. I will also ask for the warranty since it is possible that the regulator can go bad early on.
Thanks

that is what I was thinking about actually. I had my mechanic do this for me, so he probably gave it to some guy in the shop who half-assed it.

window regulators

I own a 2001 740 IL, a 1988 325 IS, a 2003 X5
Love BMW,s but the only car that doesnt break regularly is the 325 IS
The 740 have had every window regulator break more than once at 365 dollars each time its expensive now the X5 drivers window went out jams up the door handle just had it fixed and it broke 24 hours later the shop will get it back and told to fix it right
but if this is a sign of things to come is there any replacments that last?
I understaand some other makes of cars fit?

When you did the regulator did you replace the plastic clips that hold the window or did you (or the shop) re-use them? I suspect your window fell off the track because new clips were not used.

I have no Idea the shop does it all. The longest any regulator has lasted is 1.5 years just out of the warrenty the shop gives of 1 year but you figure 365 dollars times 6 or 7 times its a good size dimond for the wife to keep me out of trouble
