Diagnostics Port o where art thou?

I have searched hi and low for the location of the diagnostics port on a 2004 X5 3.0. I recently did an oil change and its almost in red already.

I have read the directions on the first part of this DIY found Here but I haven't reached the amount of gas mileage I gues since it won't let me reset it using the button. My indy tried to use the OBD cable which he saw above the driver side knee but the computer is telling him to use another cable which is for the diagnostics port. My indy and I can't seem to find the location.

Can someone show me where it is please, perty please?

It's the one in the driver's footwell. That's the only one. You need an ODB II cable.

Isn't the oil/service indicator based on fuel consumed?

Weasel will become famous soon enough
If you have an early X5, there is a round 21 pin diagnostic plug under the hood, it would be in the compartment against the firewall on the passengers side. THAT is the one you reset the service indicator through if you have it. Once you twist off the cap, you will see this:

To avoid the special tool to reset it, stick a piece of wire into pin 7 in the diagram, turn the key on then ground that wire (you can use the strut mount nuts) for about 12-15 seconds, and when you pull it off, do a quick tap on the ground point again. That should do it!

and yes vinuneuro, the oil service indicator is based on fuel used, but you still have to reset it at each service...

Read the 1st post. He has a 2004 X5, so it should have an ODB II port.

Then how can his indicator almost be at red, but his fuel consumed since the last reset not be enough to even trigger a yellow?

So from what I get from you experts is that there is only one ODB port and it is above the driver's knee. I just need my indy to use an ODB II cable. Will try and give him a call and see if he has that.

Do I have another option if he doesn't have it? I guess I will have to wait until the meter hits red then I'll be able to reset it myself using the reset button, correct?

My bad on the model year mixup... You should be able to reset it through the cluster button, why it isn't for you is unknown. But if you drive into the service drive at the dealer, just play dumb and tell them you had an oil change done and you simply want the indicator reset. They will usually help you in the drive with no problems.
