01 x5 door handle not working

Can someone please help me. My door handle from the inside of car does not work. If you pull it it feels like nothing is holding it. I removed door panel to see if cable was broken, but it was not. What should i try?

Look to see if the other end of the cable is still attached to the door.

The same thing happened on my x but it wouldn't open from the outside either!

Its either the carrier assembly or the actuator (more likely the latter).

I bought a new actuator and then had to pull off the interior panel with the door closed! It will be a lot easier as your door opens.

So take off the door panel and spray the actuator and lock assembly with loads of WD40 or lube and keep working the interior and exterior handles with the door open.

With a bit of luck it might free itself, It worked for me and I took the new actuator back to BM for a refund.

My rear passenger sticks and won't open all the time. Sometimes I will pull the inside handle and the outside handle at the same time. You can actually feel when they grab and the door will open. It take some patience, pull the handles slowly and they may or may not grab. In the winter it probably won't work at all, although I don't use that door too much.

same thing here...My door wouldn't open from the inside...had to buy a new cable after I took the door apart...now the same driver dorr wont open from outside... when I try to open the handle itself does not go all the way as it should sticks out a bit uneven....

If its from the inside...most likely the cable

I had the same problem(s).

First the outside door handle froze, had to thaw it with a blow dryer.

Then the Bowden cable connector (inside door handle to door latch) broke, so I replaced the cable.

Then the electric door lock actuator started to ‘stick’ on lock/unlock, sometimes wouldn’t work at all.

Then the outside door handle assembly broke inside the door itself. DOH!

Here are the parts I replaced:

01 DOOR LOCK WITH MOTOR ACTUATOR, LEFT 51218402537
05 BOWDEN CABLE, DOOR OPENER, FRONT 51218403057
03 BLIND PLUG 51211975404
12 HANDLE BRACKET BASE, LEFT 51218243629
13 LOCK CYLINDER BASE LEFT 51218243631
15 CARRIER, OUTSIDE DOOR HANDLE, FRONT LEFT 51218243615

Cost about $350, took ½ a day to do it all.

Door opens & closes like NEW!!

Hawkeyes any chance you have a step by step, the outside handle sticks out I pulled hard and could hear plastic break off into the door. I'm sure its the carrier but don't see any DIYs for it.
thank you for any assistance
