Same problem here, but I noticed the dealer didn't do the 'turn to position 1 fives times quickly.' So I did that the other night & I think the old dead key may still have some life in it !

So you followed the procedure where you turn to position 1 five times and it worked?

I know my battery has 3.0v of power so its charged, but it doesn't work after multiple times of being reprogrammed.

There has to be a module/brain somewhere in the X5 controlling all this crap. Any idea of where it is ?!?!?!??!?!

...i was just at the stealership. the tech said the "general module" of my x5 is acting up so the car needs to be diagnosed for the amount of $160.

Can you post some instructions on how best to crack the key open without damaging it too much and/or injuring myself in the process? My battery works fine but my lock button (the roundel button) doesn't work because the spring behind it must have fallen off. I hear it rattling around.

Thanks!

+1...can we fix this w/o going to the stealership? do we just have to change some kind of fuse or something?

There is no spring behind the roundel logo. If you hear rattling, the button assembly might have been busted loose. i'll see if I can find pictures of the internals. But the best way to open the key is to score the case in the center carefully. as the cut gets deeper, press the blade or xacto knife deeper to see how much further you have to go. then pull apart.

Thanks! I'll wait to see pics before I start cutting my key.

Hey guys hoping to kill 2 birds here.

1st Bird: My key's roundel fell off some time ago and I note that it is not a spare part re realOEM.com - keys. So I guess it'll just stay as is unless someone knows where I might get one. Tyre valve cap mod??

2nd Bird: To our friends Tom & Persona you will note on the following pic that their is a small slot on one side of where the roundel should be. Maybe this is another location for getting inside or partly inside..... Not prepared to be the guinea pig though LOL. Good luck.
