Expansion Tank Thermostat - Service Life?

On a 3.0i, How long does the Thermostat found under the expansion tank typically last? Is there a particular mileage or time suggested to replace the part? Other names for this part are : Heat Exchanger Thermostat, Transmission Cooler thermostat....

How does one determine if it needs to be replaced or not?

typically a thermostat in any car needs to get changed at around 100k miles.

all the other parts you listed are not the same thing...

there is no maintance on said part, if the lines blow off of them, you must replace the lines and the heat exchanger. most failures occur at 80k, some as early as 20k. but YMMV
