Exclamation 2001 Headlights - HELP!

Ok, I took the wafers out of the headlights and they look great!

BUT...

Now my brights suck! They are like 2 beams of light on the road, not spreading at all. The bulb is clear, has no paint on the tip to direct the light. What do I need to do? Don't tell me to put the wafers back in, I cracked them and threw away the clips. I can probably buy new lights for less than it'd cost me to have a shop put them back together..

What bulb do I need to put in there that has the paint on the tip? H7 - something like that?

Anyone have any ideas??? It's not safe, and I'd rather not spend $450 just to have brights..

EDIT: 9006 headlights will fit with some mod into the 9005 socket. However, the 9006's are meant for low beams and do have the paint on the tip. They may not be as bright... To be continued...

I have a 2001 x5 with HID lights.
HELP!!!

I'm not "officially" telling you this since you don't wanna hear it but..
put the wafers back in, it's the only way to get the beam pattern back to original. the painted tips on the bulb don't really do anything for light pattern so I would'nt even use valuable brain cells in trying to find a different bulb to make a different light pattern out of a light that was designed to use the waffle. It becomes a trade off between looks and function at this point. If you want the looks I would try to upgrade the driving lights to compensate for the lack of good highbeams, if you want function the waffers HAVE to go back in to get proper pattern. If yours are wafers are toasted then ask the peanut gallery whos got an extra pair of wafers to give to you. There have been many people that have taken them out so someone on this awesome board should have a pair to donate to your wothy cause. I have an extra pair myself that I would gladly donate but shipping from Hawaii may be cost prohibitive for you at this point. good luck my friend on your enlightening journey.

Why do you need your brights anyway? You have HID low beams..They don't give you enough light? adjust the direction on the beam pattern...

if you cna find a way to change the bowls, then do it. That's what makes the projectors53 better.
