Should I buy it?

Hello all! I am new here and found this site extremely informative! I am planning on buying a 2001 X5 3.0 loaded, Premium and Sport Package minus sport seats, front and rear air bags, dual front power seats, auto dimming mirror, tinted windows, towing package. Car is in overall good condition. Regularly serviced at the local BMW dealer and an indy shop. It has 105K miles and asking price is a little under 11K. Owner replaced front windows motors, CV boots and axles, front brakes, pulleys and belts...Should I go for it? Thanks!

I'd be wary of the price because that's really a wholesale price on the car, even for that mileage. I saw a a black '01 with similar mileage go for 14k at auction.

I would just say get a detailed pre-purchase inspection, if the car really is in the shape you say then it's a steal.

Don't buy a 105K mile BMW that is 7 years old for 11K. That is nearly like pissing money away, sorry.

You could get a far newer car with far less miles that would be more reliable and cheaper to fix than that old BMW.

Not to mention prior to 2003, the X5 was...well....in need of work After 2003 you had a new front look, X-Drive, Premium pkg with HID and Pano roof...not to mention a stronger motor with valvetronic.

You will be spending tons in repairs, the trans is notorious for going out in the X5 and at 100+ thousand miles, it is close to guaranteed to die and that is a 3-5K job (half of what you'd pay for the whole car). IMO of course.

As an "entry level price", it's a car that could be
fun and semi-practical, but could be a costly nightmare...

A few more Gs could loft you into a less old MY and with
considerably less miles. While the X is a great car, and I
own a 7 yr old 2001, I know my car.

I'd pass and keep looking...there are lots full of Xs out
there in used car land and the prices are eroding by the day.

I have an '01 with almost 150K miles and in the past year have spent over $10K in repairs, which included a new tranny ($4200) and new cats ($2200). The only reason I haven't dumped it is bc it is almost paid off and I really don't want to start over on car payments right now, plus despite all the hassle and expense I do still love this vehicle!!!
