no heat unless accelerating

I'm trying to figure out why my wifes 2001 3.0 x5 only blows heat when you accelerate

just replaced water pump and tstat housing 6 months ago, if there was an air bubble I would think it was gone by now

it looks like there's an electric water pump too, it could be the tstat is bad again, but wow 6 months?

any suggestions on what to look at?

air in the system !! heat system needs to be flushed and filled !!

when you step on the gas it gets the juices flowing and when you stop the juices stop , thats most likely what you are noticing !

do you know where the bleed valve is?

I bled the one above the water pump when the new pump was installed, I'll re-bleed that one tonight

Make sure the heater is on when to rebleed.

Make sure the heater is on when to re-bleed the system. You will also need to add more coolant.

just 1 bleed valve, by the radiator fill cap

it was low, a shortcut for bleeding, turn car on but dont start, then turn on defroster. The electric secondary pump will run, you'll see water flowing if you look in the radiator

you can either let it sit like this and watch it bleed air, or open the bleed screw

now she's got heat again, I must not have bleed it enough this last spring when I did hte water pump, and we did not notice until we tried to use the heat
