Normally i dont let the engine rev more than 2k RPM till the engine is nice and warm... If i do try to pass the 2k RPM mark the car basically cant do it.. I was wondering do petrols have this problem too? Is this a common issue with diesel cars and do the newer models (the face lifted e53 and e70) have this too? |

I have no such problem with my diesel. Overnight winter temps here regularly below zero degrees C. I suggest that you have a problem

We have no winter in the Philippines. I usually warm up my diesel engine a few minutes until it reaches normal temperature. Keep rpm around 2k .

It sounds like you have a problem. My diesel would run right up to the rev limiter if I let it from cold.
If you can't get past 2000 RPM, that sounds like a proble with the turbo or something related to that area of the engine (i.e air intake). I'm not sure how/why the problem would correct itslef when warm but it would be worth having it checked out.

Nope don't get that problem with my '05 Auto. Still sounds like there's something wrong.
Diesels do smoke a little but if you're getting a lot of smoke when cold to me that's worth letting a dealer or diesel specialist have a look at it. Petrol engines will also smoke heavily when cold if a lot of throttle is applied because the mixture should be running somewhat rich until the engine warms up. What's the fuel economy like?
