Just bought this

Hi all,

I am new to the BMW world and have just bought this 4.4L E53. I've always done my own maintenance on Audi's and VW's and I am going to be doing my own maintenance on this X5.

Does anyone know what equipment I will need for reading error codes and reseting both them and service intervals

Thanks in advance
Andrew

Also if anyone knows what issues I am likely to come across with this vehicle in the future. It has 100,000 miles on it

Enjoy.
For reading error codes, I would get GT1 computer, It special BMW Diagnostic tool, also can program, Search GT1, and youll find out.
As for 100K miles, I would look into Valve Cover Gaskets, Thermostat, Water Pump. and also ckeck Air suspention Air bags, if your X is equipped with air ride.

Congrats on the new X!! A peak reader is very handy with most BMWs but the GT1, DIS, and IsIs really are the tops! If you ever need help finding parts feel free to shoot me a PM or check out out site ECSTuning.com!

Welcome !

Add CV boots (outer front) to the above list of common items to keep an eye on.
Not expensive if you DIY but they seem to fail more frequently than some other cars.

Agree that the Peake code reader is a good choice for reading codes and resetting service indicators and 'service engine soon' messages. I bought mine for $99 USD and it has worked reliably for the three BMWs I've used it on.

Thanks very much for the welcomes and for all that info,

The GT1 I found is $499...... Massive price - I'm sure it's worth it but hopefully one of you knows somewhere where they are a little less pricey......
