I think the dealer is jerkin you around. If they installed it they need to repair it. Keep asking around. Someone has had this problem and has the answer. I would call BMWUSA and complain big time if this is a dealer install IpodyourBMW. I know my iPod has stopped working on my Aux input but it has no affect on the radio and it certinally dosn't need the X to start up again. Besides I havn't heard anyone else say this is normal.
Have you??

My Icelink will play as many playlists as I want to make. I simply press 6 for the menu, then I select browse playlist, then I cycle over to the playlist I want to hear. I basically rename a genre as a playlist. I have about 12 that I go through. And all this is done with the steering wheel controls while looking at the display on the radio.

Do you have an auxiliary input? and have you experienced any problems with it?

No, I've never heard of it.. But the dealer seems unwilling to do anything about it. I'm going to have them look at it, again, when I bring the car in tomorrow.

I think it will because you can then use the steering wheel controls and the MID display. You will not have to dig out your iPod and control it from there. (I think, since I don't have the ice-Link.)

Have them switch out the control unit. It is very easy for them to do. Remove the radio, fish out the unit, which is about the size of a small harmonica, unplug the two cables that go in and out, plug in the new one. I would bet it's a defective unit. (The iPod thing, not yours. :p)

I have an AUX input. I get to it by pressing CD twice. So basically, I press cd and it takes me to my cd player, then if I press cd again, it takes me to the ipod. I have not had any prblems at all with the icelink (I've had ipod problems, but thats unrelated to the icelink).

I'll tell them to do that... My SA is a great guy but last time I couldn't deal with him because he was away. Do you think they'll make me pay to have it replaced?

Not if it's their defective part. Thats why I asked "who installed it. If they installed it, it should be under warranty. If you installed it then they may make some excuse that you screwed something up.
