Extended Warranty (2000 4.4) - Where to buy?

I have searched and searched but only come across people posting how much they paid but not where they purchased from. Warranty Direct is immediately out because they won't warranty a 2000 model. I searched a couple other online warranty companies and couldn't come up with a warranty plan that costs less than $3200.00 for $0 deductible and 4-year, 48,000 mile coverage. I would probably be satisfied with 3-year, 36,000 mile coverage if it was that much cheaper.

I private messaged a few members on this board who posted paying $1500-2200.00 on extended warranty packages but haven't received any information back yet. If anyone needs more information, the vehicle is a 2000 4.4 with 49,000 miles and I am located in Florida (Zip - 32082).

TIA guys,

Jason

I doubt you will be able to find a warranty that is much cheaper than the one you described. No way you will be under 2500 if you want everything covered.

Speaking from my own experience, extened warrranty can be bought cheaper & easier if the Vech. is still within the Mfg warranty (Mine X5, ML were done that way). plus you get more choices for underwriter.
As far as prices goes, I believe it depends on the regional area. I can see you have X5 with 5 yrs old and that make it tougher to get a better price. Mine was from "NCR" but can be only bought from the dealer that carried it when I purchase the Vechile. I'll try to find out the other ext. warranty comapny for my X5. Will post it later once I get home.
Worst case is $800/ year for the coverage. You have to make the call whether it's worth or not. For me, it's a peace of mind.

I am in a similar situation. I have 2K miles left on my warranty. Check out www.warrantycenter.org These are the lowest quotes I have found. Anyone used this company?

Wow, I just checked that out and the rates are pretty good. Looks like $2000.00 for 60mo/60,000 miles on the bumper-bumper preferred warranty package. It would be great to know if this company checks out and all is well with them; sounds like just the deal I have been looking for!

Thanks for everyone's help on this.. fyi - the vehicle is out of factory warranty.

It doesn't sound like it's that great of a deal because you are essentially only getting a 60mo/11,000 miles coverage. As I know that most warranty starts the date count from the day you purchased the warranty, but the milage covered is the total milage on the car, regardless (NOT addition to your current odometer reading!). Therefore, a 60,000 mile warranty on your car ends up being only an 11,000 mile coverage (60,000 miles total warranty - 49,000 miles on your current odometer = 11,000 miles coverage). So...unless you're only going to drive 11,000 miles in the next 5 years, it's not a good deal because I'm sure your warranty will expire on milage first. You should be looking at a 60mo/100,000 mi warranty instead.

Typically the date is the same as well. If you buy a 6 year 60,000 mile warranty, the warranty is really only for 2 years or 10,000 miles. If the dates were added, you would have a 10 year warranty but only 60,000 miles.

BigSadler...you might hunt a re-quote using a deductible of some amount, eg 50 or 100 bucks. That tends to reduce cost and it's not like you are going in for every lil'hang nail.

Your "out of warr"/5 yr old MY situ is the tough part.

I just bought WarrDirect ext warr. We shall see how it goes.

BigSadler,

please let us know if this warranty ($2000 for 60mo/60k on a 2000 model) comes through for. See to be an excellent deal for a '00 model !!

As MD points out, accepting a modest deductible can bring down the premium a fair bit.

(my '00 is under extended warranty until 03/06 or 75k. I kinda assumed it would simply not be possible to extend this again.......)

Scotty.

Just a reminder to read the fine print on Exclusions, ability to take it anywhere you choose, any "Nat'l Acct" hookups, eg PepBoys, AAmco, et al, etc. Also most ExtWarr companies only allow the transfer of the remainder of that warr to go to a Private Party, not a stlr, if you trade it in.

And, most/all of the aftermkt warranties start the "odo reading" clock ticking from the day you buy; for exp., mine is for "4 Year or 75,000 Miles", as in:
- years by the calendar, Good
-"75K Miles" is just so-so, as it Really means when my odo gets to 75K miles, that Time is Up! (For me with 46K, that translates to about 2 1/2 years worth of time I suspect.)

Also, look into adding a full "Emissions Pkg" for another 100-200 bucks, as the emissions stuff covered on our older Xs is the Cat converter and exhaust sys. All the parts like O2 sensors, et al, are long out of warranty. Read the Manual; it is a surprise.

The actual "covering co" behind the Warr Co., also varies from region to region and state to state...some of the "covering companies" are slightly suspect. Good luck hunting. I paid to make the bet on the Ext Warr. For me, I would not own this beast w/out one. If if works out, I am ahead or even...if I don't need it for 2 Gs worth of fixes in the next 2 years, they win. I spent a month hunting for mine through WarrDirect, but it was mind numbing and somewhat confusing trying to seperate the bs from the good stuff. GL,md
