good luck. it's actually not that bad. I just did those about 2 months back. if you're just replacing the vent hoses to the oil separator, it can be done in less an hour.
as for the valve cover gasket, passenger side is a bit tricky. tis and bentley manual aren't 100% correct. you will find a positive lead wrapping across the valve cover. you need to make it loose to give you some space. also the rubber heater hoses on the side will be in the way too. move them a bit will make it easier. since you're painting the valve cover, remember to cover the valve while the covers are off. just in case some unwanted dust or bugs sneak inside. |

If you're replacing the oil seperator with the fixed design (not just the crankcase vent hoses) you find a well-placed mirror on the firewall will help. It's impossible to see the bolts otherwise. Make sure you get the hose onto the bottom of the oil seperator without any kinks. It should not be too bad with the valve cover off. My back and wrists hurt like hell the next day though ![]() Take your time and enjoy it! |

So far I'm about 2 fifths of the way done. This job is very intimidating and long. so far I have put in 10 hours of work and I just started to prep my valve covers for paint. The new oil seperator and crankcase vent have been replaced and I have cleaned out my intake manifold that was covered in oil along with three soaked sparkplugs. new gaskets to replace the old and some new hoses for the coolant system. I have another 15 hours to finish up with what i have set out to do. here are some pics of the teardown. Notice the oil seperator which is next to the blue flashlight at the rear next to the firewall.

When I did the valve cover gasket, I didn't want to take the intake out. It just takes more effort to do that and you will have to disconnect the fuel line. You're halfway thru and the most difficult part is done. Rest would be easy. Please post pictures once the painted valve covers are back on. I didn't do that because I couldn't ask my wife not driving car for a couple days.
