Question PS2 Install - Playstion 2(slim line) or DVD player help!

Hi

I want to install a DVD player in my X5. Running on the NAV/TV Screen. No headrest TV's yet!! but maybe one day!

Want some advice/opinions on following options

1) Install a sepate DVD player?
2) Just use the playstation to play DVD's. (Not multiregion does not play VCD)
3) Should i install DVD player in the Boot? there is a free slot is there? i already have 6 disc changer in there.
4) Do i get a dvd changer or a cheap and cheery single disk DVD player that does the job. This way it plays DVD/VCD's MP3's aswell. where is best place to install it. I have first aid kit under passenger seat.
5) Where is the best place to install a slim line PS2? these have flip open tops? I was thinking about putting it in the glove box? has anyone done this?

Advice needed... Thanks in advance.

I fitted a DVD player with headrest screens myself. I put the single disk DVD player (plays mp3s vcd`s and all that) in the spare rear side compartment and mounted it to the drop over flap, this way when I open it, the player comes out and lays flat so that I can eject the disk etc.. It was a very easy install as the fuses etc. are all in the same compartment. I am considering a PS2 as my dvd player (sony) has power outputs for a PS2 and also phono inputs for aux feeds on the DVD player. I would probably mount the ps2 in the boot and not in one of the side compartments.

Hi Adrian. Have you got any pics?
What dvd player you using? did you install a remote eye at the front of the car for it?

Is a multi dvd changer a good investment? or a simple single disk changer?

should i just run a PS2? where u thinking about putting the PS2?

PS2 install

I've seen a PS2 (slim line) installed behind the rear centre arm rest (i.e. pull the arm rest down, pull back the leather panel). This does of course assume that you don't have the ski opening.
It looked very neat and something I'm thinking of doing on mine.

PS2 Install option

yeah thats sounds cool. Does it/can it really fit there? I not measured it.. but will give it a go later. I think the PS2 slim line would fit there.. but not too sure about the controllers. I want to get the RF controllers so no wires etc but still think its a tight fit with the rf recivers sticking out. I guess the PS2 is held back in place with Velcro?? but good place to put it for easy access!!

Anyone have pics of a PS2 install?

I`ve just uploaded some pics, http://www.xoutpost.com/showthread.php?p=44490#post44490

No, it`s just a one disk player but using Nero I can get 3 to 4 movies on a dual layer DVD so that`s what I do.

I think I`ll put the PS2 just in the boot, to the right hand side and wire it to the DVD electrics. I dont see it being so hard.

Very nice indeed.

So can you controll the DVD player from the front? I assume you have a remote eye located at the front.

I am thinking of getting the PS2 and seperate single disk DVD player installed.

Did you not have a free slot on the opposite side for the DVD player? would this not have been a handy place?>

No, although the system does have a remote eye feature, the rear screens relay the remote commands to the dvd player already (just point the remotes at the screens and you can control it), it also has 3 sets or cordless headphones with it.

The right hand boot compartment was empty so I chose that one, there wasnt enough room on the left because that already has the cd changer, dvd system and two other boxes.

I think I`ll deffo get a PS2 in there soon, just down to money at the moment.

Good luck.

ps2 install

i would just use the original ps2. for ICE, you gotta use the original, due to the fact that it has a built in fan, which doesnt overheat. dont over kill your car with more and more unnescesary equipment. (a little goes a long way) i have my ps2 installed in the passenger side kick panel, at the bottom. made a little shelf n that baby slides right in , especially if your going to be playing dvd's you want it to run continuously, without over heating and shutting off on you.
