I would wonder if they are getting the whole thing covered by BMW and then taking your money as a 'tip.'

I would call BMWUSA or some other official group to ask specificly if the part is warrented or not. I would not leave it to the dealer to decide.

which dealer is this btw? PM if you don't want to post in thread it certainly +1 seems like they are trying a fast one on you. call NA and clarify the coverage. I've heard of stealers trying this trick before.

Interesting, that is what I thought. I am sitting at the dealer right now. Century BMW in Greenville, SC. I bought it here. They just told me the same thing. My 4.8is is here for the same thing. I will have to get clarification on this if they present me with a bill. I believe I have a BMW CPO, at that is what the BMW CPO card and paper work says. Alot rides on this issue, I am looking for a replacement for my wifes 2001 330ci. This car has had very few issues in its 100k life so far. Not so the x5. I love driving it, but jeez, couldnt BMW find another alternative to the air suspension junk?

Century sucks, imo.
I had 3 horrible experiences there, as did a fellow poster, Meiac, just
recently.

I realize it is one of the few stlrs in your SC area, but they are so
freakin disingenuous and un-customer oriented, imo.

This is my first experience here. My wife had her 330ci serviced here a couple of times, no problems. Purchased the 4.8is here. One and last time at Hendrick in Charlotte. Awful. Now after 4.5 hours waiting at Century find out that the strut is leaking air. 4.5 hours to tell me this? I knew that! The people at Hendrick misdiagnosed, (purposely maybe?)and charged me 400 bucks for my trouble. I kept trying to tell them this! A soapy water spray would tell them this. They probably knew what the problem was, just didnt want to deal with it. Now, the people at Century tell me the strut is not covered, btw 1100 bucks. I calmly tried to reason it out with him. No dice. Kept telling me that they are like tires. They are consumables. Really? at 1100 bucks each? Maybe I should be thankfull that all 4 didnt go at the same time. All this while my wife is trying the new 328 and 335 to see which to replace her 330ci for. I guess I am very dissapointed on a couple of levels. The misdiagnosis, and lack of response from Hendrick management. I mean zero response, and the wasted time and money there. They kept telling me that it was the ride level sensor. It was installed incorrectly. WHAT? If it was installed incorrectly it was done at BMW. I never touched the thing. Now Century, for completely wasting my time, and again money, to tell me something I already knew. To wait 4.5 hours to let me know it wouldnt be covered. I wish somebody would enlighten me here. Am in the wrong? Its not like its a shock absorber or a Mcphearson strut. I will try going up the food chain. In the mean time, no new BMW for the wife(heck that might work, sick her on them). If you see a black 4.8is with a poster in the back window that says "BMW CPO" and a thumbs down, that would be me. Rant over for now.

I just had my RF airbag replaced last week under the original factory warranty. It was leaking and looked a lot more weathered than the other 4 air bags. They replaced it with no hassles at all.

Original, meaning the first 50k miles? Mine is now under the CPO. I have 74k miles now.

CPO, based upon many posts here, has become a count or weigh
the votes deal, unfortunately. Some posters with a brother-in-law
in the service dept or, unusually good relations with the Stlr mgmt
have reported good "coverage"; many, like corima et al, report this
wear & tear jive. I suspect BMW NA Mutha is really tightening the
screws on CPO "warranty" coverage...

I've read the CPO "covered"/"not covered" and it reads like a chapter
out of Alice in Wonderland.

Then, the bust out retail + 20% prices and "service" quote...

Not covered (shock absorbers/strut elements); I guess it might hinge on what they mean by "strut elements".

I am still under the original warranty, due to my car originally being a demo (which I didn't know until I took it in for the leaking air bag issue) and demo's get an additional 6 months factory warranty tacked on when sold. (didn't know this either!) I have no idea how different the CPO is from the original warranty, but it sounds like a lot of stuff is not covered on the CPO.

Anyway, there were no issues with replacing the front bag/strut. The SA just said, 'Yeah, no problem'.
It's one in the same part, so if struts are not covered but springs/air springs are, then it could be tricky. The air spring and the shock/strut are separate on the rear, but one single part on the front. Sometimes shocks are not covered, but struts are. Either way the spring/air spring should be covered I would think, so I would argue that point.

I bought my car at Carmax and bought their extended warranty. I called their warranty company and they said the leaking air bag would probably be covered (not explicitly listed as 'not covered') so I think even the Carmax warranty would cover the leaking air bag as well.
