Installed OEM trailer hitch today. Piece of cake!
I ordered my OEm hitch kit off of flea-bay and got it 2 days later.
Installed this morning. Started at 8am, done by noon. That included a run to the store for a door panel remover tool.
If there is one thing that should be listed as a required tool that isnt, its the door panel removal tool. It makes life so much easier, especially since you have to pop off 20 of them for the rear bumper metal insert.
Heres another plus, everyone has said you have to take the truck to BMW to have it programmed after installing the module, well I plugged in my trailer wires and voila! The trailer lights all work as they should. With the trailer hooked up, the blinkers blink faster than without, but thats just fine w/ me.
This install is really overrated IMO, it was quite easy with normal tools and no help. Dont pay the 500+ dollars to have the dealer install it, do it yourself and enjoy your saved money. I hoisted the tow bar into place myself w/ no help, lined everything up easily and got the bumper back on w/ the help of a ratchet strap hanging from the tailgate hinge.
Thanks to the instructions I found on this site, I couldnt have done it w/o Xoutpost.
