X5 Drifting ???

Hello guys;

I'm new here to x5 world and i think it's an amazing place for us beemers to hang out =)

nyway, i always wanted to drift with my x5, unfortunately i could only do it on water by turning dsc of

HOWEVER ... i was having fun with my x5 until i discovered a small computer underneath the left rear seat, unplugged the 2 plugs into it ...

I then turned my x5 on, i noticed that the dsc, parking brake and abs lights where on !!

Gave it some gaz and DAMN IT WAS GOOD !

1- transmission was faster !
2- when i give it full throttle from 0 it burns tires
3- drifts on ANY corner i want to !
4- Damn good engine sound !!

i thought i might have disconnected the dsc computer from my car.

I have a bit of worries like would this mess up my x5 in any way other than burning tires ??? :P

if any one has any info please answer thanks

P.S : DON'T DO THAT UNLESS YOU ARE SURE OF WHAT YOU'RE DOING ... RLLY DANGEROUS !

You good man! Teach!

I'm beyond depressed when I see people drifting with their cars and I can't do shit with my 4.6 even with the DSC off. I'm not saying I want to burn the wheels but just a little spin at the U-Turn.

Damn Michelin 315 20" tires are quite costy, so I'm settling for just that.

Yeh ... i know how u feel

Like i said ... just lift the rear seats and underneath the rear left seat there's a small computer with 2 plugs goin in ... UNPLUG them and you're good to go

NOTE : Do not unplug them or plug them while your x5 in on ... or you'll fuckup the 2000 $ computer :P

given that it's an all-wheel drive, aren't you a little afraid of royally screwing up your drivetrain??? - my Dinan S2 upgrade has me very cautious not to floor it with the front wheels turned, as it takes off so quickly

Is it an easy unplug-play and then plug and all is safe thing, or would I risk messing up my X5's electronics?

Weasel will become famous soon enough
I believe what he found and unplugged is the x-drive computer, which from the sound of it defaulted the transfer case into a mainly rear bias. I know how much fun the X5 would be as a rear wheel drive, but what he found is only on the 04 and up X5's with x-drive. Keep in mind it likely still has some pressure on the clutches in the case meaning you are likely causing wear, but it isn't actuating more power to the front wheels to compensate for oversteer... hence, drifting! As much as I LOVE drifting, the X5 isn't really set up for it. And keep in mind that after you do this you will have fault codes in numerous drivetrain and suspension control modules that can only be cleared with BMW testers (GT1).

But before you plug it back in and clear the codes... try to get a really good video of drifting, figure 8's, donuts, etc...!
