Coolant

[Sterling 4.4]

My X has a Coolant Error light that just recently popped up. I assume it is just low. Has anybody experienced anything different?

I wouldn't jump to any conclusions on the waterpump, but I would top it off and see if it does lose coolant and how fast.

If it loses coolant to the point of having to top off again soon have the system pressure checked for a leak. As the hoses and seals get old small amounts of coolant are able to get out and evaporate. Wherever the coolant is seeping out from may not ever appear wet, but a crust will develop there from the evaporated coolant making it easier to spot. Good luck and hope for something simple! These vehicles need to be topped off under normal conditions without leaks occasionally anyways.

weasel56 my man, since you're replying this thread. I might as well ask you a related question. A couple days back, I found I had some coolant leak and I could locate where it leaked from. It was from transmission cooler attached to the lower section on radiator(passenger side).

The leak was from one of those 2 connection to radiator. So, I tested by letting the engine run but not drive it. There was no leak. But after a few trips of driving, I could always find small puddle. I just checked the connection again today. I pressed the transmission cooler towards the radiator and I heard some click sound. So, I was thinking maybe I accidentally made it loose while I replaced the power steering pressure hose a few weeks ago. Or is the leak due to some gasket or rubber inside the connection is shot?

Do you know what's holding transmission cooler to the radiator? looks to me it's the metal clip in between those 2 connection. And out of my curiosity, when replacing the radiator, do you detach transmission cooler fluid lines or just take the transmission cooler off radiator with fluid line in place?

This has happen to me, i am taking it in to get it fixed they said 60 bucks installed for two new o rings where the transmission cooler connects to the radiator.

Weasel me again, is it a fact that x5's need the occasional topping up of coolant?in my case on my 3.0d it drops from MAX to halfway between MAX and MIN after 566 miles 900 odd kms. no idea of where the loss is and not about to take of head gaskets etc etc
