Adding Sirius to X5 with Nav

Does it really works. I have 2005 4.4i with Nav. Is it better to go to the dealer?

BMW's OEM Sirius kit can be installed on vehicles without navigation from 10/02 on and vehicles with nav from 10/03 on. Yes, it does work. Going to the dealer versus doing it yourself is a matter of how much confidence you have in your own abilities. It's not that hard to do on your own, in my opinion.

I have a May/03 with nav and cd. Is anyone still reprogramming the radio control module in the rear next to the battery? Is there a work around I haven't seen? Something that I don't need to rip up too much of the back of the rig for?

Not sure how relevant this is to the E53 (should be close as the E53 is a E39 on steroids for the most part), but I added OEM Siruis to my 2003 E39 with NAV using module 65126964398.

It was plug and play with the proper cables.

Cool, thanks. I'll look into that module and cable. To connect it. A different 10 pin I'm told.

If you are adding to an 03 then chances are the BM53 radio module does not support Sirius but you would have to confirm that by looking at the part number on the BM53. There used to be someone in CO that did the reflash to allow Sirius support on older BM53's but not sure if he is still around. Here is a list of the BM53 models #'s and feature support, you may get lucky and have a newer BM53 installed.

BM53 Radio Support with Part Numbers
65.12-6 904 213 No aux input, no Sirius, no MP3
65.12-6 904 214 No aux input, no Sirius, no MP3 (re-manufactured part number)
65.12-6 919 080 No aux input, no Sirius, no MP3
65.12-6 919 081 No aux input, no Sirius, no MP3 (re-manufactured part number)
65.12-6 922 512 No aux input, no Sirius, no MP3
65.12-6 922 513 No aux input, no Sirius, no MP3 (re-manufactured part number)
65.10-6 933 089 Aux input, no Sirius, no MP3
65.10-6 933 090 Aux input, no Sirius, no MP3 (re-manufactured part number)
65.12-6 927 910 Aux input, Sirius, no MP3

Damn n-sievers! That's a crazy awesome amount of info. Thank you very much! I wish I could reflash this one, I don't like the cable changeing at all.

It was a while ago with I added Sirius to my E39.

After reading what n_sievers posted, I do vaguely recalling something with the BM53 radios on the 2003 era vehicles. Somewhere along the way, a BM54 radio was released as I recall.

I think the BM54 radio fully supports the Sirius modules or some sort of additional input.

This might be a good resource - BMW Bluetooth Retrofit Information

There may be superseded Sirius module part numbers as well. Some of the newer units only have a single antenna input compared to the older units which may have had dual antenna inputs.

Search for a used module with Lifetime Sirius, I found one for my E46 for like $225, needless to say the module has paid for itself!!

I have Lifetime Sirius in my E70, so I will likely swap modules when I need sell the E70.
