BLUETOOTH CONFUSION

Hi to everyone, I have done some extensive research and have come against a brick wall

What I would like to know is why would BMW install controls on a steering wheel and on the Sat Nav unit for a telephone (bluetooth) but not install the cables or harness?

I have come to the conclusion that it is not possible to fit the original BMW system but have to get an after market product

Is it possible to get the cables/harness to hook up the system properly as per BMW spec? Any instructions on fitting/installation?

I have read all the bluetooth section and have been in touch with Bimmernav and still no further forward

I wish I could help, but I have found that there is a big difference between the US-spec vehicles and non-US spec vehicles when it comes to the wiring harnesses. If your vehicle was a US-spec I could tell you exactly what you need to do. But since you are in Europe, I don't have the knowledge to help. Sorry, hopefully someone else can assist that does.

its cheaper for them to make one set of items (eg, steering wheel controls and nav units) than to make different ones for different configurations. Plus it will make it easier when you do eventually want to put them on, because then you will already have the functionality on the nav unit, and the steering wheel.

as for the rest of the items, check with your dealer, the car might already be pre-wired for the items, you just have to add the small final bits (eg, phone cradle, microphone, BT unit, antenna)

I have a 2001 E53 that was semi pre-wired for the CPT8000 phone system. Here is my article on how I retrofitted the OEM Bluetooth into my X5 - http://www.xoutpost.com/articles/all-...01-bmw-x5.html

It's not the CPT8000 that you need to make this work, it's that the vehicle was prepped with the telephone pre-wiring

I don't have the pre wiring, is it worth sourcing one from a breakers yard?
