Grrrrr ... Speed limit ! :@

Hey guys;

What i'm fussing about isint the road speed limit, but the x5 speed limiter (programmed in the E.C.U)

Is there any kind of "D.I.Y" to remove the speed limit ???

ESS and alot of other tuning companies offers reprogramming your e.c.u to remove the speed limit and higher the rpm but for an stagering 500 $ :s ... not including the shipment to their company in finland i think and shipment back to you ...

And i just hate it when the rpm just freezes when the speed reaches 210 km/h (130 miles)
Any solution guys ????? Thanks

I would get a 5-point harness, roll cage and helmet with a Hans before I removed the speed limiter. 130 mph isn't enough?

If you really want to remove it you will need to flash/change the ECU with software from a tuner from what I know.

Though I hear it's pretty smooth (oh, to dream). Weasel says the USA v8's don't have a limiter.

I am pretty sure all BMW's are limited at 155 tops in stock form. I think my 02 4.4 sport package is limited somewhere in the 140's.

Life begins at 160..............

Guys your kill'n me............. If beemer156 wants to let the dog off the leash and run for a while you should be backing him up! The only way that I know how to remove the OEM speed limiter is to have an after market tuner re-program the ECU. I had Dinan work on my X a few years ago and I am VERY happy with the results.

Life begins at 160.........

Ur right, I was thinking no 130 limit. There is an upper limit though.
Hopefully you East and West coast guys get to see some of the long and straight roads out in the west/midwest and southwest.

I've done 130 in 3.0 and there is no need to go faster than that, plus it takes like 10 miles to get up that high, a 4.4 is drag limited to about 145, so with 100 less HP you may get 5 mph more going down-hill

what will your Dinan 4.6 do now? I know that my 4.8 will hit an indicated 162 before the limiter kicks in, so I assume that is 153 in real life
