My Key on my 2002 x5 no longer locks or unlocks the doors as efficiently as it should, sometimes refuses to work at all and I have to insert and turn key as in the stone age!! Does any body no of any way of improving it`s performance

I think the key starts to go bad after 5 years or so.

Weird happening to me today!!!!

Instead of going to work I went downtown to campus for a class I will be in all this week. But when I got out my X and hit the lock on the remote.... Nothing happened, so I (even tried the unlock and trunk open but no response whatsoever) locked my X using the key... Well very confused since I just brought a new key in June during lunch I went back out to my X and tried to open it with the remote and no response, after going to get some lunch (stayed in the X so did not try off campus) before going back to class, same thing no response from remote. As you guess after class no response agian, by then I was pissed and planned to go straight to the dealer, but somehow I ended up going home instead. Upon getting home remote worked perfectly... had planned on riding my bike the rest of the week but now I am curious to see if I take it back on campus tomorrow will the same thing happend??
