I have read the great DIY CV Boot Replacement already; however, I'll be performing a Half Shaft Replacement. My question is once I remove the swivel bearing and get to the step where the DIY Boot Replacement author continued... can I just pull out the entire CV Half Shaft? The author doesn't detail what may be invoved with a continued removal of the entire shaft. I already purchased two new half shafts from RockAuto.com. They are complete units, greased and sealed, from what I can gather on the site. I was hoping I could just install the new units using similar instructions from the DIY CV Boot guide. Thanks for any advice, recommendations, and help. My wife will be extremely happy if I can get her car on the road again. Sincerely, Jim Kennedy [email protected] |

The half shaft is just held in place with a spring clip in the splines, and once you're to the point where the front is free and you have room to pull it out, just find a spot to get behind the inner metal cup with a screwdriver or small prybar and it just pops right out. Just make sure to line up the spring clip when you go to put the new one in so it will poop into place easily.
