Control Arms

Has any one heard of the Upper control arms on the rear suspension wearing out? Dealer is telling me that I need new ones at 375$ each, that does not include install. My X5 only has 68000 on it. It looks relatively straight forward to replace, but I thought that was expensive. Has any one replaced theirs?

Thx

Yes I have done this on my e39, but let me tell you the dealer said they were bad about a year before they actually DID go bad per my indy's advice.

I would advise you get a second opinion.

I looked on line and found Non OEM for 65$ each …any suggestions on replacing these with non OEM… That is a big price difference

Does any one have any experience with these guys ...and the quality of the parts?

mm i would stick with OEM parts for this repair. If your still under warranty and anything goes wrong later they will point the finger at the non OEM part and blame the new issue on them. then you will have to pay for alot more than just control arms, and might have possible voided your warranty.

Mine just went at 119XXX, there is a deffinite point when you can tell its gone, since you will hear the squeeeeaaaakkkkk over every little bump. If you have no noise or nitocable difference in the ride, then I say wait it out.

What about the wear on the inner edge of the tyre? I thought these control arms affected the camber etc, which in turn causes the premature wear of the tyre?

rear control arms

i was talking about the rear upper control arm, some call it the wishbone upper, the other upper one is the tension arm, which is adjustable with the ecentric bolt and is a straight arm.
the the first pis im pointing is the pboblematic upper control arm that has a lot of tension when i attempted to remove it the other is the tension arm with a focus on the ecentric bolt- no problem to change that.

hello, i have an '02 x5 3.0, i was doing my rear upper control arms and in my bently theres nothing aboout compressing the spring. i deactivated the air, but there is a lot of tension on the wheel carier outer mounting point to go in. i started to press out the outer ball joint, but got scared of *sproing* do you have any thoughts. it doesnt even show the springs in the schematics page!
